Dear Friends of the German Business Community,
The past two months were busy with delegations from and to Germany: The respective delegations about Power Generation from Solar & Wind Energy incl. CSP and Innovative Smart City Solutions with a Focus on Transport Infrastructure and Logistics to Saudi-Arabia offered many opportunities for German companies to enhance or build their business in the Kingdom.
From the Saudi-Arabian perspective, Germany remains a valued partner. This was underpinned by the visit of the Minister of Investment to Berlin in March including a successful CEO roundtable as well as the Offtaker-trip with the Ministry of Energy to the Rhein-Ruhr area in February.

Every 6 months, the global AHK network conduct the World Business Outlook survey in order to be able to demonstrate the current challenges for German companies but also the successes in international business. GESALO together with MENA Business GmbH and with the support of the Logistics Alliance Germany (LAG) organized a business initialization trip to Saudi Arabia on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action. This is a project-related funding measure of the market entry program targeting small and medium-sized German companies (SMEs). The business initialization trip offered German companies the opportunity to get to know the current developments in information and communication technologies in urban development on site. During individual B2B meetings as well as visits to Saudi market-leading companies and institutions in Riyadh, NEOM and Jeddah, participants established contacts and identified opportunities for collaboration with potential partners.

The Big5 exhibition is the place to be to connect the German and the Saudi construction industry.
It took place from February 18th until 21st, 2023 in the Riyadh International Convention & Exhibition Center - RICEC, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
It was a pleasure for us to assist the exhibitors at the German Pavilion and to work alongside German companies operating in different fields.
51 German companies have been present at this year’s Big 5 which underlines their significance in the construction sector in Saudi Arabia.

State Secretary for Economic Affairs Roland Weigert led a 30-strong delegation from business, science and politics to Saudi Arabia and Bahrain. The participants spoke with government representatives from both countries and regional key players from the fields of energy and hydrogen, environmental technology and medical technology. 35 Bavarian companies were able to convince themselves of the transformation process in the region under the direction of Ministerial Director Dr. Ulrike Wolf from the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs. The GESALO team of Dr. Dalia Samra-Rohte organized high-level appointments for the delegation participants in Riyadh, the Eastern Province and Bahrain.
"This is just the beginning," said one participant. "After the insights and great discussions with the most important players, it is clear to us: We will be back!"

The energy dialogue of the Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Klimaschutz and the Ministry of Energy goes into the next round! A Saudi delegation led by the Saudi Ministry of Energy visited the Rhine-Ruhr area. The focus was on meetings with leading German companies involved in the hydrogen transformation.
Delegation der Deutschen Wirtschaft für Saudi-Arabien, Bahrain und Jemen brought together the most important stakeholders of German industry with Saudi companies.

GESALO together with the Renewables Academy (RENAC) AG invited to the Renewable Energy Delegation to Saudi Arabia with the focus on Energy Generation from solar and wind energy incl. CSP within the framework of the export initiative energy of BMWK. German companies have recognized the potential Saudi Arabia is offering in the renewables sector. GESALO facilitated the delegation on as part of the Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Klimaschutz Energy Solutions Made in Germany program. German companies had institutional meetings with relevant Ministries and Authorities in the Kingdom. German companies presented their technology with a strong focus on CSP. Over 100 participants from the Saudi business community, institutions and ministries engaged into a discussion with the German companies’ representatives, resulting into potential cooperations.

On February 12th, the cultural event took place, a talk about what it means to be brought up between two different cultures hosted by the German Embassy Riyadh.Together with German-Saudi writer Rasha Khayat and the Saudi writer Hadeel Alshobeili, Rasha discussed the opportunities and challenges as a German Saudi, torn between two cultures.
The event took place at the wonderful Enchanted Art center with German-Saudi writer Rasha Khayat, the Saudi writer Hadeel Alshobeili and German-Saudi Rasha Moslem. Together, they engaged in a conversation with the audience about the wonders, the privileges and their experiences of their mixed-background worlds.
